Fair Dealing and Copyright in Canada

Research-  students can use and make copies of work for research. But the stuff copied cannot have more than 10% of the work. Also if the research is to be published, the works used may not be included.

Review- People use parts of movie trailers or famous videos and  they are aloud to put short clips of the movies or videos in there video without being copyrighted.

Eduction-  Depends On the type of work, anywhere from 10% to all of the work can be copied for educational use only.

News reporting- A student can use stuff from news articles as long as they put where they got it from example if they got it off any new site online or any other new article, they would have to put that in the news report where they got there information.

You may present an audiovisual or sound recording in class as long as the copy was obtained legitimately (e.g., owned, borrowed, rented) and your audience consists primarily of students, instructors, or any person who is directly responsible for setting curriculum for the school.

Note: If you are using an audiovisual or sound recording found on the Internet, you may show it in class only if you reasonably think that the copyright holder permitted its use on-line (e.g., an episode of This Hour Has 22 Minutes is posted in the on-line catalogue at CBC.ca).
